Magento 2 Hyva Store
Wikiart Store
Stunning Wall Art and Highest Quality Canvas Prints
Business Overview
Business Overview
For many years, the client has been working in the European art market, aiming to popularize famous masterpieces worldwide. Among other things, the company offers customers the opportunity to have their favorite artworks displayed on canvas, photo paper, or other materials with sophisticated print-on-demand technology.
Feeling the need for a powerful website for online sales, the client turned to Laconica for help. They chose our team because we had proven our high e-commerce development expertise while working on another joint project.
Our task was to create a new WikiArt Store from scratch, ensuring its scalability, security, and user-centric online shopping experience.
Solution
Solution
Our team crafted a high-performance online store built on the robust Magento 2 platform. This flexible solution is engineered to handle peak traffic, delivering a seamless shopping experience while offering endless customization options. And since the client plans to grow the business, Magento 2 was the ideal choice for the project.
Magento Hyvä Themes
We boosted the website's speed by implementing the Hyvä Theme. This Magento 2 frontend solution dramatically reduced code and slashed JS/CSS resources to a mere 0.2 megabytes. As a result, we skyrocketed the client's online store's performance, exceeding Google's Core Web Vitals benchmarks and achieving peak Pagespeed.
System Overview
The Wikiart store provides a full online shopping experience, allowing customers to easily navigate the website and browse a catalog of famous artworks. Users can select a copy by print type, art collection, or artist or upload their personal photo, turning the chosen piece into custom wall art, posters, oil paintings, and more, , delivered to their home.
Company’s Services
- Canvas Prints. Customers can transform any chosen art piece into canvas wall decor, available in a wide range of sizes and formats, including stretched, framed, or rolled.
- Framed Prints. This option, designed to showcase the artwork at its best, can be ordered in various classic frames from sleek black to antique gold.
- Photo Tiles. The company also allows customers to turn their favorite paintings into framed photo tiles, each crafted using high-quality printing and encased in a sleek frame available in black or white.
Elevated Online Shopping Experience
Our goal was to create an online store that would consider the possible impact of printing and framing on the painting's appearance and give the customer a full picture of the artwork before purchasing it. This way, the company aimed to ensure audience satisfaction, avoiding the infamous Before-and-After effect.
This includes the following:
- Printing options. For each selected painting, the user can define the printing method, select the appropriate frame sizes, and specify other critical parameters.
- Artwork details. The customer will get full information about the ordered painting, including materials, dimensions, mounts, eco properties, etc.
- Painting preview. The buyer can see the painting applied to the selected product, be it a canvas, a framed print, or a photo tile, and try it in different frames and sizes. It's also possible to “hang" the piece on the virtual wall and view the artwork in the interior.
Custom Algorithm
We developed a special algorithm that analyzes the painting and processes the received data to show users the artwork in printed form as close to real conditions as possible.
- Preview calculation. To show how the piece will look delivered, the system makes complex calculations, taking into account multiple factors such as the printing method, dimensions, presence and type of frame, etc.
- Frame selection. The algorithm selects the optimal frame option for each artwork in size and proportions. If necessary, the system adds a white outline around the painting, ensuring it looks favorable and doesn't have cut edges and distorted areas.
- Room examination. If the customer wants to see the painting in the room, the algorithm will determine the best place to hang it. In doing so, the system analyzes the piece's real proportions, including the chosen frame, if any, and its dimensions. The task is to ensure the artwork perfectly fits the interior and doesn't overlap with any item.
- Color analysis. In addition, the algorithm we created can determine the predominant color in the painting to facilitate the selection of a suitable interior, frame, etc.
AI Integration
We integrated the online store with an OpenAI solution to analyze the array of paintings, remove possible duplicates, and sort them by art movements, themes, subjects, and more. This AI-powered system also helps create short descriptions for artists whose necessary information is missing.
Print-on-demand Integration
An important aspect of the development was implementing the print-on-demand functionality. This required our team to dive deeply into all aspects of the printing process so that we could properly prepare the product and calculate the cost of the work.
Outcome

We successfully launched the Wikiart Store, making sure it fully meets all the client's requirements. User-friendly, scalable, and flexible in management, it attracted a paying audience interested in the company's services.
Laconica remains actively engaged with the client, providing 24/7 support for their online store. Our focus is maintaining seamless operations to accommodate their growth and adapt to the dynamic art market.
