Our client has been in the art market for over 20 years, representing 1st Art Gallery. With a team of over 50 full-time artists, the company aims to give everyone access to museum-quality replicas of world-famous masterpieces and provide the opportunity to turn personal photos into handmade portraits and original artworks. To simplify this task, they decided to create a website and start selling paintings online.

The client started working on an online store in-house but soon realized the need for expert assistance. That's why they invited Laconica to join the project. With our great e-commerce development experience, we could help them achieve the desired results in the most cost-effective way.

Hyvä Theme Integration

To speed up the website loading, we integrated the Hyvä Theme. This innovative frontend solution for Magento 2 projects ensures excellent performance by reducing the amount of code and loading just 0.2 megabytes of JS/CSS resources. Thanks to these actions, we improved Google’s Core Web Vitals and achieved maximum Pagespeed for the client's online store.  

Features

  • Personal Profile. After signing up through a Google account, the user gets access to a personal account with all the information, including default billing and shipping addresses.
  • Art Collection. Customers can browse and buy hand-painted reproductions of famous paintings or order a custom piece, whether their stylized oil portrait or a unique AI-generated artwork.
  • Online ordering. The online store offers a simple, intuitive ordering system with status tracking and notifications about delivery progress.
  • Preview. When browsing the selected category of reproductions, the customer can hover over the chosen piece to see how it would look on the wall and compare it with others nearby.
  • Categorized Search. The customer can use the search by specifying the artist's name, art style, or other criteria, and the system will try to find paintings that best match the request.
  • Fitting and painting details. Before buying, the customer can choose a frame and learn all the painting details, which includes the ability to see the copy in different interiors, zoom it, or rotate it in 3D.
  • Payment and delivery. The system supports all popular payment and shipping solutions, allowing the user to pick the preferred option from a variety of available ones.

AI Integration

One of the services on the company’s list is ordering artwork that customers create themselves. To implement this feature, we integrated OpenAI and developed a special AI-powered wizard that helps the user choose the style of the painting and describe its plot. After that, the artificial intelligence generates the illustration, and the company's artists turn it into a handmade oil piece.

Custom Algorithm

To allow customers to see how a painting looks in an interior before buying it, we developed a unique algorithm that analyzes the artwork and selects a room for it. This algorithm takes into account several important factors, such as:

  • Color scheme. The system determines the painting's color solution and chooses the best-matching room from the gallery of available interiors.
  • Room environment. The algorithm thoroughly analyzes the room to find where to place the painting so that it doesn't overlap any interior element, such as a sofa, vase, window, etc.
  • Matching paintings. The algorithm analyzes which room to choose so that two paintings placed next to each other in a category section don't have the same background.
  • Frame selection. If a customer wants to view a painting on the wall in a selected frame, the algorithm must take its dimensions into account as well.

The online store sucessfully went live and now broadcasts the company’s mission on a new level, making art available worldwide. This allowed the client to attract a larger audience and make the brand more recognizable.

We continue collaborating with the company, supporting the online store 24/7. Our task at this stage is to ensure its round-the-clock operation so that it scales along with the client's business and meets the evolving requirements of the art market.
